Grandparents Who Are Responsible for Their Grandchildren

Select a Zip Code
Measurement Period: 2018-2022
This indicator shows the percentage of grandparents who have primary responsibility for the care of their grandchildren where the grandchild’s parents are not living in the household.

Why is this important?

Grandparents have several benefits when raising their grandchildren, these include a sense of purpose, an opportunity to nurture and continue family relationships, and receive love and companionship. However, in spite of these benefits, custodial grandparents report more limitations in carrying out daily activities and often have multiple health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, and depression.
